Tom Popyk

South Asia Correspondent

Tom Popyk joined the Global National team in September 2010 as our South Asia correspondent, based in New Delhi. His first assignment was to cover the Commonwealth Games and the troubles that surrounded the event.

Tom has reported from the frontlines and back rooms of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Over the course of 14 months in Iraq, the veteran journalist covered the Falluja and Najaf campaigns, Abu Ghraib, major bombings, the Anbar insurgency, and ongoing political developments.

He was even the lone Canadian broadcaster to cover the capture of Saddam Hussein.

For ABC News, Tom delivered a world exclusive video and reportage on the November 2003 resumption of U.S. bombings in Iraq.

Over the past decade, he has reported for CBS National Radio, CBC Radio and Television, CTV News, Global News, Corus Radio, ABC Radio, BBC Wales, The Canadian Press, and People magazine.

Tom also worked as a producer for the Gemini award-winning 25th season of CTV's investigative newsmagazine, W-Five.
