Tom Clark

Chief Political Correspondent and Host of 'The West Block'

, Global News

Veteran Canadian journalist Tom Clark joined the Global News team in September. He is now Global's chief political correspondent; the host of the network's new political affairs program The West Block; and will be a frequent contributor to Global National.

The West Block airs Sundays at 10.00 AM on Global BC, Global Okanagan, Global Edmonton, Global Calgary, and Global Lethbridge, immediately following the Sunday Morning News; 12 noon on Global Regina, Global Saskatoon, Global Winnipeg, Global Toronto, Global Thunder Bay and Global Montreal; and 1.00 PM on Global Maritimes.

“I’m going to use my 40 years of experience covering politics to make it accessible, interesting and interactive,” says Clark.

“This is not a show about the elites for the elites... This is for Canadians who have an interest in the future of their country.”

Clark arrived at Global after a lengthy career covering politics and current affairs. He covered his first federal election campaign in 1974, and most of the ones that followed. He has also interviewed nearly every Canadian prime minister since Pierre Trudeau.

Most recently, Clark was the host of CTV’s Power Play.

The seasoned journalist has also covered some of the biggest international stories in recent history, reporting from five war zones including southern Iraq, the Persian Gulf and Bosnia. He was also the only Canadian reporter in Belgrade during the Yugoslav war.

Born in Toronto, Clark comes from a long line of journalists. His family tree includes Joseph T. Clark, who was the editor of Saturday Night and editor-and-chief of the Toronto Star. Clark’s father was involved in founding Canada NewsWire.
